NUSU Sports: An Introduction

NUSU Sports: An Introduction

Attention all Newcastle University students! There’s Sport for All at NUSU…

Liam Isaac, Inclusive Sport Coordinator at NUSU, takes us through the basics.

Here at Newcastle University Students’ Union there are over 150+ sporting opportunities for students to get involved with ranging from casual sessions in our ‘Go Play’ programme to Hall Sport and Intra Mural to our elite Performance Sports Clubs who represent Team Newcastle.

Go Play

Want to try a new sport? Want to play something for fun, not trophies? Or never been sporty, but want to finally give fitness a go? Or just want to try something without committing to it for the whole year? Great idea! This project is just for you. There are so many opportunities, have a look here.

Health and Fitness

We run over 1500 exercise classes a year and have some of the best instructors around. So you can be sure you’ll find something that fits perfectly with your lifestyle. Joining a class can also be a great way to make new friends and feeling part of a group can be a superb way to stay motivated.

Inclusive Newcastle

Inclusive Newcastle offers a wide range of sporting services to remove the barriers you may face to participate in sport and physical activity. Working closely with local clubs and organisations our inclusive sporting programme is aimed at all abilities and includes the delivery of para-sports, a qualified support team and the opportunity to be active with one of our student sport volunteers.

Hall Sport and Intra Mural

There is a huge programme of weekly recreational sport within the University. Students of all sporting abilities are encouraged to participate in the programme which is perfect if you enjoy playing in a friendly but competitive arena, either with your hall, course mates, society or group of friends. Check out what’s happening here.

Performance Sport

Newcastle University was ranked 11th in the 2014/15 BUCS National League Table and is one of the top universities in the UK for competitive sport. We consistently finish within the top 15 of the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) rankings. The Performance Sport Programme aims to maximise the performance of its representative teams and individual athletes within the BUCS programme and National leagues.
